TRANSITUS
RESIDENCY AT GRAME LYON
Transitus is a piece for cello with real-time processing and tape, in which sound
engages in an intimate dialogue with the memory of Lyon's traboules (hidden
passageways).
These strategic corridors once traversed by the Canuts and their delicate silks, and
later by the Resistance during the Second World War still resonate with the dramas
and the beauty that have passed through them.
Transitus seeks to unveil this buried memory and tumultuous past by transforming
the traboules into resonant chambers.
The cello, metamorphosed through electronic
treatment, brings back to life the colors of a sonic tableau suspended beyond time,
each frequency rekindling the mnemonic breath of these dark and enigmatic
corridors.
The aim of Hans Kadensia, through this residency at GRAME CNCM, is to enrich her
music with a sensitive, human dimension by incorporating sounds that have been
buried, forgotten, or erased by today's noise-saturated world.
By drawing from the ambient sounds of the traboules, Hans seeks to revive
shared memories and bring back to life, if only fleetingly the echoes of these
neglected passageways.
