Hans Kadensia is a Franco-Canadian cellist, improviser, and experimental composer based in France.
Hans's artistic expression transcends traditional musical boundaries, creating a profound sensory landscape where the tangible presence of the cello connects organically with the ephemeral digital soundscape.
She began playing the cello at the age of four and joined the Conservatory of Lyon at twelve. In parallel she became a member of the Youth Orchestra of the National Orchestra of Lyon (ONL),
Alongside her classical studies, Hans developed a strong interest in electroacoustics, exploring recording techniques and reworking sound samples with her cello.
In 2022, she continued her studies at the Saint-Étienne Conservatory, focusing on contemporary composition under the guidance of Digo Losa (GRM/INA) and Pascale Jakubowski.
The following year, she composed The Ropemaker (2023), a work for cello and Max for live performance, and released her first piece for real-time processed cello and tape, L00P, which was later broadcast on Radiophrenia in Glasgow.
In parallel, Hans composes works for diverse ensembles and instrumental formations, such as L’Ensemble Orbis.
She regularly participates in artistic residencies to explore new techniques in her creative process. During a three-week residency in Saint-Étienne, she composed Forest, a work for tape and cello presented in an octophonic setup.
In November 2025, she will be in residence at GRAME in Lyon to work on Transitus, a composition inspired by the Traboules, these unique passageways found only in the city of Lyon.
Hans deconstructs and reimagines musical material at its most fundamental level, inviting listeners into a microscopic sonic universe where each vibration and each electronic manipulation becomes a narrative unto itself.
